A few years back I attended an Orchid Show for the first time. I have always loved orchids so I had to stop in. At the time I had no idea how many fascinating orchids existed until I walked into the show.
I encountered a very rude lady while i was there. I was wearing a pair of jeans that had a hole in the front just above the knee. Not a big deal. People my age pay lots of money for pants with holes! Any how, a little girl walked up to me and said to her grandmother, "She has a hole in her pants". The grandmother replied "Well, some peoples parents can't afford nice clothes". Now, I don't know if she meant to sound rude or if it just didn't come out right. Either way, I couldn't believe she just said that!!! I thought, Lady, these jeans were $60 and they are very well worn and comfortable now. Of course, i didn't say anything because I didn't want to start the first ever brawl at the local orchid show and jail is a place I never want to visit. Instead I just vented to all my friends who all thought it was very funny as do I know.
Here are some pics from the show. The photos aren't that great because I didn't know how to use the camera that well.

What beautiful flowers here, they are practically an art form in themselves with that color and grace. A little bit of Spring in February!
Those are beautiful! I especially like the second picture with the spikey orchids. I just got my first orchid from boyfriend for Valentine's day.
How pretty. The ones in the second picture look as though they could do you some damage :) They are very pointy looking. The yellow orchid is beautiful.

Oh my how absolutely beautiful. Lucky you for having a camera with you.

Isn't it funny the things we remember about an event? Some people are just rude I guess. The orchids are very pretty and unusual. One day I'd like to try grow them.
The orchids look beautiful, and quite varied. Did you see any in particular that you'd especially like to grow? Setting Sun is very exotic looking.
Wow, I can't believe the comment. It's a good thing you took the high road and didn't insult the Grandma back in front of the little girl, although she needs to a better role model. I'm picturing pots of orchids flying, as you slide the Grandma down the orchid display table, like on the bar of an old time saloon.

Hello, those two links belong to an "orquideario" a plantation of orchilds in the beautiful island of Cuba in case you wish to watch.
You took beautiful pictures, girl! Those orchids are marvellous. As for the rude lady, you did right. Ignore her - done!
I don't own any orchids (because I have a very hungry cat) but am fascinated by them as well. Have you read "The Orchid Thief" by Susan Orleans? It's an interesting peek into the wierd world of obsessive orchid collectors...fun!
LOL!!! NorthernShade-her comment really did suprise me but i gave her the benifit of the doubt. Perhaps she didn't mean it to sound as it did. Either way, sliding her across the tables would have been fun!LOL
Thanks for the comments all!
They are such exotic flowers. Every time I see one, I want to interview it, hear what accent it speaks with, what kinds of currents (air, soil rain) nourished it, what stories it could tell about its gardening nurturer.
Hail holy jeans, that's all I have to say.
Wll I think these photos are stunning. As for the rude lady, I am sure she has a miserable life! Hey, if you ever get to go to England, you must go when the Chelsea Flower Show is on. It is amazing
