Ooops! I did it again.

I was just telling all of you about my lack of restraint when it comes to buying plants. Shortly after that post I headed to Wal-Mart to get a money order and thought i better see if they have clearanced their sad little bagged plants. To my surprise they had, yippee. I don't like to buy much there but when it comes to rescuing those little perennials I can't resist.

I picked up these six hostas at regular price for $2 each! Three August Moon and three Golden Tiara, plus the three Purple Palace Heuchera's for $2.50 each. The other plants in this photo are previous purchases.

One peony, and two bags of the these 'Amethyst' and 'America' Astilbe's. They were very large divisions much to my surprise. I got 12 Astilbe's for $10!

Not a bad looking little peony for $2.50. Lots of eyes at least.

I also bought a bag of 18 Dutch Iris 'Mrs. Saigon' for $2.50.

The is a told lily that i picked up at the farmers market a few weeks ago. Not sure which cultivar it is but I loved the foliage either way.

The silly part of all this plant buying is that I have to take them all back to MI with me when i go! I rent here and the boyfriend doesn't take care of plants no matter how much coaching he gets so... I'm going to have the trunk full of plants by the time i leave.

Don't feel bad....you got some great plants for a fraction of the price! You cant load up your car with all of your belongings, and then rent a uhaul to put all of your plants in!!! LOL!!! Good deals! Those kind are just too hard to walk away from

I bought a few inexpensive ivy geraniums last summer at lowe's, and loved the bargain even more when they just grew like crazy, happily spilling from their pots all summer. Made the bargain price even sweeter!

Is there a 12 step program for you to attend nearby?
Great deal on the hosta alone! How could you pass them up?

You are going to need a u haul :) I've told my husband if we ever move there are lots of plants I'm taking with us.
I think you got great deals, I'm glad you didn't pass on them!

I love a good bargain! Good hunting skills. I should do that same thing. Just keep looking even if I don't 'need' it. That is when the best deals present.

I had to laugh at that peony stub. I don't garden and if I'd seen that little piece of whatever-it-is I'd have kicked it to the curb. My mother (an avid gardener) is perpetually ashamed of me. She steals things from my yard because she says I treat them badly and she feels like she has to "rescue" them from me.

It's hard to have a brown thumb! In my case it might actually a black thumb.

You have a problem - take it from someone who knows because they have that same problem!

I just got some clearance herbs (three or four big oregano plants and a couple purple sage) for $2 apiece (originally $4!) today at a local garden center. Why the drastic price reduction? Because they were bigger! LOL NICE!

And I've had that same peony you got for awhile now...potted up, sprouting, and one of them even put out a flower bud last week! It's just under grow lights in a pot in my basement. These are my first peonies - I figured it was best to cut off any flower buds at this time and let them work on developing roots instead?

Sorry to be off-topic, but since you live in North Carolina - I'd like to ask you this: Are you growing any native Venus flytraps in your garden? I scanned through your posts quickly and couldn't find anything. I'm interested in this because I am growing them in my Bermuda garden. We never get frost here - and we are not in the same USDA zone at all (I'm zone 11!) – yet, the plant still goes into dormancy in our "winters." I just thought that it's interesting how plants can adapt.

Lovely and good finds! I think of peonies as investment plants...They are going to be with us a long time! Yours was a great bargain! Have a fun time planting your garden. gail

It's contagious just to see the photos, and I know I'd kill everything you show. Plants DO that, that sense of life they beckon us with ... loveliness! You, at least, will grow them and love them and be able to post photos of them ALIVE (hee!)

That's quite a haul for not much money. You found some great bargains!
12 Astilbes for $10 is amazing! Several of my peonies started out small like that, as pieces from friends. Give it lots of compost and it should grow reasonably fast.
It's perfectly normal for an obsessive gardener to show no restraint whatsoever when it comes to plant buying...especially when there are bargains to be had. You're not alone! :)
